Undiscovered Ground is the artist’s first solo exhibition, bringing together a retrospective selection of works produced between 2020 and 2026.
Spanning six years of sustained experimentation and development, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to trace the evolution of Harford Thompson’s practice revealing both recurring concerns and significant shifts in approach.
Across the works on view, abstraction functions as a means of discovery rather than resolution. Forms emerge and dissolve, surfaces accumulate and recede, and meaning remains deliberately open. The paintings reward prolonged engagement, encouraging viewers to navigate their own relationship with the work through perception, memory and emotion.
Presented at General Assembly Gallery, Mayfair, London from June 19-20, Undiscovered Ground marks a significant milestone in Harford Thompson’s career, introducing a distinctive new voice in contemporary British painting.
